Job Description

OBJECTIVES/PURPOSE

The purpose of the Government Account Director (GAD) is to execute on market access strategies and tactics with assigned Government accounts. With assigned accounts, the GAD is responsible for development of strategic business plans, relationships, and access to stakeholders. The GAD will also lead pull through at assigned accounts and medical treatment facilities (MTF) with population-based access stakeholders.

The primary goal is to secure appropriate coverage criteria and minimize physician and patient access barriers to the full portfolio of Takeda products in assigned accounts. The GAD will ensure effective communication and collaboration between the matrix partners across the commercial organization. The GAD will execute on the aligned strategies to help meet organizational goals and execute push/pull-through tactics. The GAD will share with internal stakeholders’ market observations, best practices, and customer learning’s in support of the development of brand strategies and tactics.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Manage national federal market access portfolio including Department of Veterans Affairs, Department of Defense – TRICARE, and Public Health Service (PHS), and Medicaid/Managed Medicaid, Medicare MACS
  • Serve as access expert on full portfolio of Oncology brands
  • Assess and develop the business case for negotiating contracts
  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams including marketing, sales, medical, finance

CORE ELEMENTS RELATED TO THIS ROLE

Must have a deep understanding of the Government sector and the ability to partner with sales teams. Ability to identify opportunities to work with VA/DoD and translate that into action with results. Will need to exhibit superior communication skills (written and oral) to effectively contribute on several cross-functional teams.

Knowledge of the Federal payer environment or other government policy space (particularly around oncology reimbursement) is required. The GAD will have extensive understanding of government payer.

EDUCATION, BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

Requirements:

  • Minimum 7 years industry experience; must include VA/DoD and Market Access experience
  • Experience launching a new product in this space would be preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in US healthcare/biotech/pharma reimbursement system across major payer segments (Medicare, Medicaid, Federal, and Managed Care)
  • Educate and assist field leadership and sales on VA/DOD process and pull-through of product access
  • Willingness to travel over >50% of time and manage critical customer interactions
